Command Sergeant Major Jayson D. Matlock
Command Sergeant Major Jayson D. Matlock assumed responsibility as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Arizona National Guard (AZNG) on June 9th, 2024. He advises the Adjutant General on all enlisted-related matters affecting the 6,200 enlisted Soldiers and Airmen of the AZNG and their families.
CSM Matlock joined the Army National Guard on 15 May 1988 and has served in the Army National Guard for more than 34 years. He completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S.C. and Advance Individual Training at Fort Sill, OK as a Field Artillery Forward Observer (13F) and re-classed as an Infantryman (11B) in 2005. CSM Matlock was promoted to the rank of SGM on 15 April 2013. Prior to being selected for the Command Leadership Program (CLP) and assigned as the AZTC BDE CSM, CSM Matlock served as the ARNG G3/5/7 SGM at NGB, Arlington, VA.
CSM Matlock has been on Title 10/32 Active Guard Reserve since 2004 and has held various positions across National Guard Bureau, Combatant Commands, and Army Service Component Commands. CSM Matlock has been mobilized and deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and in support of United States European Command (EUCOM).
CSM Matlock’s military education includes all levels of Noncommissioned Officer Educations System. He is a graduate of the Army War College Nominative Leaders Course (2019), U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (2014).
