Retirement and Long Term Disability
DEMA employees will be enrolled into one of two retirement programs depending on their position.
Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS): After 27 weeks of employment, employees will be automatically enrolled in the ASRS and begin contributing to the plan and accruing years of service toward retirement. Contributions are matched by an equal contribution from the State. For more information on employee and employer contribution rates, long-term disability coverage, and retirement benefits, please visit www.azasrs.gov.
Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS): Fire personnel will automatically be enrolled in the PSPRS on their first day of employment. The Public Safety Retirement System is a defined benefit plan and is designed to meet the needs of personnel engaged in hazardous duty situations. Contributions are matched by the State. For more information on the PSPRS, please visit www.psprs.com.
State employees also have the option to participate in the Arizona State Deferred Compensation Plan where employees can designate a portion of their salary to a tax deferred investment program.
Paid Time Off
Permanent full time employees receive 10 paid holidays and may earn an additional 13 to 21 days of vacation leave per year, depending on the employee’s years of service with the State. Employees are also provided 12 days of sick leave per year.
